GBAC STAR Facility Accreditation

GBAC STAR is the gold standard for facilities that have built a high-level and sustainable Infectious Disease Management Plan (IDMP) that outlines the procedures and protocols for managing and mitigating infectious disease outbreaks. This IDMP is built on continuous improvement through a cycle of planning, implementing, reviewing, and improving an organization's processes and actions to meet its communicable Disease plans, biosafety, and biosecurity goals.

At the height of the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, AAAE partnered with the Global Biorisk Advisory Council (GBAC), a division of ISSA, to encourage members to achieve GBAC STAR Facility Accreditation. That partnership continues today. Not only are GBAC STAR-accredited facilities equipped and ready for what’s next, they’re also able to adapt quickly and withstand challenges.

Health, Wellness, Resilience

GBAC STAR Accreditation validates that a facility's cleaning and disinfection practices help their business meet environmental, health, and social responsibility goals, and promotes their continued commitment to keeping their employees, guests and community safe. GBAC STAR Accreditation program has helped over 4,000 facilities worldwide adopt a comprehensive and high-performing cleaning and disinfection program to maintain hygienic indoor environments. GBAC STAR Accreditation will also help meet certain LEED for Existing Buildings: Operations and Maintenance (LEED-EB:O+M) certification criteria.

Once your GBAC STAR application has been submitted, you will receive the GBAC STAR Facility Accreditation Handbook and the following reference documents:

  • Accreditation Handbook
  • Workbook
  • Risk Assessment Tip Sheet and Template
  • SOP Template
  • GBAC Sustainable Practices
  • GBAC STAR Cleaning, Disinfection and Infection Prevention Guidelines specific to Airports
  • Recommendations for PPE
  • Validation and Auditing Resource Guide and Directory
  • GBAC STAR Applicant PR Kit
GBAC STAR is a performance-based program. There are 20 GBAC STAR Program Elements, each with specific performance and guidance criteria. GBAC offers tools and documentation to assist facilities in developing the competencies, procedures, and protocols that meet accreditation requirements as needed. The application completion process will depend on the size and complexity of your organization.
