IAAE members at Quito's Mariscal Sucre International Airport on May 13 celebrated the opening of a new International VIP Lounge designed to give departing travelers one final connection to the city before they board their flights. Developed by airport operator Corporación Quiport, the new facility is part of the airport's ongoing expansion and modernization program and reflects a continued investment in enhancing the passenger experience.

The renovated lounge adds approximately 1,560 square meters of space and increases capacity for international passengers by 15 percent. Rather than serving solely as a premium waiting area, the lounge was intentionally designed to immerse travelers in the identity of Quito through architecture, materials, colors, and textures inspired by the city's UNESCO-listed Historic Center.

Among the lounge's signature features is an open-air terrace overlooking the surrounding Andes—an uncommon amenity among airports in the region. Passengers can also enjoy a culinary program featuring Ecuadorian flavors alongside international cuisine, with a spa scheduled to open in the near future to further enhance the pre-flight experience.

"We wanted our passengers to feel that Quito is still present—that the city does not end once you pass through immigration control," said Ramón Miró, President and CEO of Corporación Quiport. "An airport is much more than infrastructure. It is the first and last memory that millions of people have of a city."

The new International VIP Lounge reflects Quiport's broader strategy to strengthen the passenger experience while reinforcing Quito Airport's reputation as one of Latin America's leading airports for service quality and hospitality.
