FAA Announces $374 Million in FY24 AIP Grants for Projects at 299 Airports

Today, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced over $374 million in infrastructure grant awards as part of the fiscal year 2024 (FY24) Airport Improvement Program (AIP), including $278 million in entitlement grants and $96 million in discretionary grants. The grants awarded today will fund a variety of projects at 299 airports, including construction and improvement of airport facilities, repairs to runways, taxiways, and aprons, and purchasing equipment needed to operate and maintain airports.
 
“The Biden-Harris Administration continues to modernize our aviation infrastructure to make it safer, more resilient, and more efficient. The funding we’re announcing today will allow hundreds of airports to make critical improvements that will benefit passengers for years to come,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg today.
 
The AIP grants announced by FAA were made available by the $3.35 billion in “regular” AIP funding that Congress provided in March 2024 as part of the FY24 DOT/FAA spending bill. Today’s announcement brings the total amount of FY24 AIP grants awarded to approximately $554.6 million after FAA awarded about $179 million in AIP grants last month.

What’s Next? FAA is expected to continue to award FY24 AIP grants through September of this year. Airports should be aware of two other notable developments as it relates to other infrastructure funding programs:

• FY25 Airport Terminal Program (ATP) Grant Applications: On July 1, FAA released a notice of funding opportunity (NOFO) for FY25 ATP grants, triggering a 30-day application period. Airports have until Wednesday, July 31, at 5 p.m. ET to submit an application for a share of $1 billion in funding that has been made available for terminal development projects.
• FY23 Supplemental Discretionary Grants: FAA is expected to release within the coming months a list of projects that will receive a share of approximately $269 million in supplemental discretionary funds that Congress provided as part of the FY23 omnibus spending bill. We are expecting an announcement in August or September.
