Call for Proposals, Scientific Posters, Lessons from the Field Posters.
Call for Presentation Proposals:
We intend to offer a series of presentations that address the local, national, and international connections and consequences between wildlife hazards and aviation. This year’s conference theme, Birds, Planes, and Safety Gains: Connecting Science, Policy, and Practice, explores how scientific research, regulatory policy, and on-the-ground practices intersect to reduce airport wildlife hazards. Sessions will highlight collaborative strategies that enhance aviation safety while balancing ecological considerations.
The program will include invited and solicited oral presentations, panel discussions, and poster presentations. While proposals on any wildlife–aviation topic are welcome, submissions aligned with the conference theme are strongly encouraged.
Priority topic areas include:
- Conservation
- Sustainability
- Science
- Technology
- Risk management
- New techniques and methodologies for wildlife strike reduction
- Airport-specific wildlife challenges, experiences, and lessons learned
- Training issues
- Outreach and communication among stakeholders (e.g., airports, airlines, pilots, regulators, environmental groups)
- Presentations that directly address the conference theme
Descriptions of all accepted presentations will be printed in the conference program. Presenters must comply with the BSC-USA non-commercial policy, presentation selection policy, and audio-visual recording policy. Presenters may distribute copies of their presentations at the conference if they wish. Demonstrations of control techniques, products, or related activities may be conducted by registered exhibitors during the airport field trip.
Call for Scientific Posters:
Poster presentations provide an opportunity to share research findings, case studies, innovative practices, and emerging concepts related to wildlife hazards and aviation in a visual and interactive format. Posters may address any wildlife–aviation topic, with particular encouragement for submissions that align with the conference theme, Birds, Planes, and Safety Gains: Connecting Science, Policy, and Practice.
Accepted posters will be displayed during designated poster sessions and listed in the conference program. Poster presenters are expected to adhere to all applicable BSC-USA policies, including the non-commercial policy.
*NEW* - Lessons from the Field:
This year, we invite airport biologists, wildlife managers, and airport staff to participate in a special “Lessons from the Field” poster category. These posters should highlight a practical solution or strategy that has worked at your airport to mitigate wildlife hazards. Examples may include new techniques or methodologies, modified or self-developed traps, innovative use of equipment, or adaptive management approaches.
Submissions in this category do not need to represent full research projects. Instead, they are intended to spark conversation, idea-sharing, and peer learning among conference attendees by show casing real-world successes and lessons learned.
Guidelines
Presenters should submit their proposal by end of day, Friday, March 27, 2026. Proposals received after this date may not be considered. Presenters will be notified regarding acceptance by May 1, 2026. See this example for formatting your presentation proposal. Include contact information for the lead presenter.
Annual Conference Presentation Selection Policy
Approved by the BSC-USA Steering Committee on 14 January 2014.
All oral and poster presentation abstracts received will be reviewed by the Annual Conference Committee. Selection will be determined on appropriateness and interest of topic, level of content, comprehensiveness of session objectives, and expertise of presenter. BSC-USA reserves the right to decline the presentations that appear to be commercial sales pitches, self-promotion, or unwarranted criticism of a competitor. Further, BSC-USA reserves the right to decline presenters who have accepted the invitation to present at a past conference(s) and then failed to attend/present without providing advanced notice to BSC-USA.
Participation as an oral or poster presenter is by invitation only after review of the abstracts. In some cases, when abstracts are not accepted as an oral presentation, an invitation to present as a poster presentation might be extended. All presenters will be notified accordingly.
When you agree to present in a technical session at a Bird Strike Committee USA conference, you consent for your participation to be recorded in audio and video formats. In addition, you consent to having a copy of your presentation (in PDF format) and/or an audio/video copy of your presentation made publicly available. Presenters may request, in writing, to opt out from audio and video recordings prior to the conference. This request is subject to approval by the Annual Conference Committee. Presenters may not opt out from having a copy of their presentation (in PDF format) being made publicly available.
Bird Strike Committee USA Audio/Visual Recording Policy

Audio/Video Recording of Talks
When you agree to present during the technical sessions at a Bird Strike Committee USA conference, you consent for your talk to be recorded in audio and video formats.
We reserve the right to publicly distribute any recording under a Creative Commons license. As conference organizers, we cannot be all places at once and it is important for us to be able to review all material presented at the conference. Presenters may request, in writing, to opt out from audio and video recordings prior to the conference. Such requests will need to be provided to the Chairman of the Annual Conference Committee (currently John Ostrom and John Weller) at least two weeks prior to the conference itself. This request is subject to approval by the Annual Conference Committee. Presenters may not opt out from having a copy of their presentation (in PDF format) being made publicly available. -
Photography
When you register for Bird Strike Committee USA conferences, you consent to be photographed by official conference staff, to have those photographs published under a Creative Commons license, and possibly used in various promotional material. If you do not wish images of yourself to be published, you may opt out by contacting the Chairman of the Annual Conference Committee (currently Jim Laughlin and Megan Baker). Conference staff must abide by the rules outlined below.
