About the Course

This course is tailored for new airport professionals and incoming public officials to enhance the individual’s understanding of the aviation story, industry leaders, airport management issues, current challenges faced by industry leaders and strategies for implementing sensible strategic plans or goals. It is designed to present new airport board members or commissioners, senior and mid-level airport executives, and entry level with a substantive and thoughtful review of the airport industry. This course also gives a capstone summary of the airport management environment from A-Z. Airport 101 topics include: Aviation History, Airport Legal Framework, The Financing of Airports, Airport Industry Trends, and Effects of Airline Competition on Airport Management, Airport Capital Structure Comparisons to Other Industries, and Overview of Airport Organizational Structure and Responsibility.

About the Instructor

Dr. Kim Kenville

Kimberly A. Kenville, Ph.D., C.M.

University of North Dakota

Dr. Kim Kenville is a professor at the University of North Dakota (UND) and has taught the airport management (BBA) curriculum for the past 27 years. Prior to teaching at UND, Kim worked as a noise abatement intern for the MSP Airport for airport operations at DTW and MKE airports working airside, landside, and terminal operations. In 2005, Kim earned her PhD in Organizational Behavior and Leadership and went on to develop the master’s and PhD programs in the aviation department at UND, where she was the graduate director for 10 years.   She opened Kim Kenville Consulting, a DBE certified consultancy, in 2008 and has authored or co-authored 12 different ACRP reports, sat on various panels and has been a member of the Aviation Gasoline consensus study for the National Academies. She is a governor-appointee for the North Dakota Aeronautics Commission and has served as chair and vice chair in the past. Currently, Dr. Kenville is the vice-chair of the ACRP Oversight Committee and is a regular training consultant for AAAE teaching Airports 101 and the Certified Member (CM) program.  Kim is a private pilot, is a certified member of AAAE and she and her husband, Jon Scraper have five children.

Civilian/Military Airport Connection (CMAC)

What is CMAC?

The Civilian/Military Airport Connection (CMAC) program helps separating military personnel and new veterans acclimate from managing military airfields to the dynamic and complex commercial-use airport environment.

There are four components to the program:

  1. Professional transition workshop
  2. One airport certification course - choice of ACE Airfield Operations or Certified Member (C.M.)
  3. One year membership in AAAE
  4. Airport job shadowing
