U.S.-India
Aviation Summit
Background
The U.S-India Aviation Summit will foster dialogue between Indian civil aviation authorities and industry and their U.S. counterparts in both public and private sectors, while also serving as a showcase for advanced U.S. technology, equipment, services, and best practices tailored to meet India's expansion requirements.
In March 2023, the Government of India announced plans to invest $12 billion over two years to construct new airports and update existing ones as part of an effort to improve regional connectivity.
Over the last decade, India’s civil aviation industry has experienced expansive growth. This growth has been driven by economic factors and bolstered by the integration of low-cost carriers into the nation’s airline fleet, the construction of new airports, and the focus on increasing regional connectivity among the Indian states. From January-October 2023, the Indian market saw almost 1.3 billion passengers, an increase of 24% over the same period in 2022. In 2023, domestic air travel within India not only recovered to pre-COVID levels but exceeded them.
U.S. aircraft manufacturer Boeing projected that India’s aviation market will grow 6.9% annually until 2040, outpacing other high-growth regions including Southeast Asia, China , and Africa. To meet growing passenger air traffic demand in India, the country is estimated to need approximately 2,210 new aircraft and approximately 430 million additional passenger flights over the next 20 years, according to analysis conducted by European aircraft manufacturer Airbus.
USTDA is holding this Summit under the U.S.-India Aviation Cooperation Program (ACP), a public-private partnership comprising U.S. aviation firms active in India’s aviation market. Founded in 2007 by USTDA, FAA and U.S. industry, the ACP regularly convenes its members to discuss key issues with Indian civil aviation authorities. The ACP works directly with the Government of India to support India’s civil aviation sector modernization priorities. To join the U.S.-India ACP, visit us-indiaacp.com.
