Call for Proposals, Posters, and Field Demonstrations

We intend to have a series of presentations that cover the local, national, and international connection and consequences between wildlife hazards and aviation. This year's theme, What Is Due Diligence?, provides a focus on not only the commonality of wildlife hazard mitigation but the importance that relationships/partnerships have on the success of attaining a level of safety acceptable to all within the aviation/wildlife arena. The program will be comprised of invited and solicited presentations, panel discussions, and poster presentations. Although submissions of presentation proposals on any wildlife-aviation topic are welcomed, presentations related to the following areas are strongly encouraged for this year's conference:

  • Conservation
  • Sustainability
  • Science
  • Technology
  • Risk management
  • New techniques and methodologies for wildlife strike reduction
  • Airports and their aviation wildlife problems, experiences, and challenges
  • Training issues
  • Outreach and communication with and among entities (e.g., airports, airlines, pilots, regulators, environmental groups, etc.)
  • Presentations that speak directly to the conference theme

Descriptions of all accepted presentations will be printed in the program. Presenters must abide by the BSC-USA non-commercial policy, the BSC-USA presentation selection policy, and the BSC-USA audio-visual recording policy. Presenters may distribute copies of their presentation at the conference if they desire. Demonstrations of control techniques, products, and other activities can be presented by registered exhibitors during the field trip to the airport.

Guidelines

Presenters should submit their proposal by June 5, 2024. Proposals received after this date may not be considered. Presenters will be notified regarding acceptance by June 10, 2024. See this example for formatting your presentation proposal. Include contact information for the lead presenter.

Annual Conference Presentation Selection Policy

Approved by the BSC-USA Steering Committee on 14 January 2014.

All oral and poster presentation abstracts received will be reviewed by the Annual Conference Committee. Selection will be determined on appropriateness and interest of topic, level of content, comprehensiveness of session objectives, and expertise of presenter. BSC-USA reserves the right to decline the presentations that appear to be commercial sales pitches, self-promotion, or unwarranted criticism of a competitor. Further, BSC-USA reserves the right to decline presenters who have accepted the invitation to present at a past conference(s) and then failed to attend/present without providing advanced notice to BSC-USA.

Participation as an oral or poster presenter is by invitation only after review of the abstracts. In some cases, when abstracts are not accepted as an oral presentation, an invitation to present as a poster presentation might be extended. All presenters will be notified accordingly.

When you agree to present in a technical session at a Bird Strike Committee USA conference, you consent for your participation to be recorded in audio and video formats. In addition, you consent to having a copy of your presentation (in PDF format) and/or an audio/video copy of your presentation made publicly available. Presenters may request, in writing, to opt out from audio and video recordings prior to the conference. This request is subject to approval by the Annual Conference Committee. Presenters may not opt out from having a copy of their presentation (in PDF format) being made publicly available.

Bird Strike Committee USA Audio/Visual Recording Policy

Approved by the BSC-USA Steering Committee on 14 January 2014.

A. Photography/Recording by Conference Staff

  1. Audio/Video Recording of Talks
When you agree to present during the technical sessions at a Bird Strike Committee USA conference, you consent for your talk to be recorded in audio and video formats.

We reserve the right to publicly distribute any recording under a Creative Commons license. As conference organizers, we cannot be all places at once and it is important for us to be able to review all material presented at the conference. Presenters may request, in writing, to opt out from audio and video recordings prior to the conference. Such requests will need to be provided to the Chairman of the Annual Conference Committee (currently John Ostrom and John Weller) at least two weeks prior to the conference itself. This request is subject to approval by the Annual Conference Committee. Presenters may not opt out from having a copy of their presentation (in PDF format) being made publicly available.

  2. Photography
When you register for Bird Strike Committee USA conferences, you consent to be photographed by official conference staff, to have those photographs published under a Creative Commons license, and possibly used in various promotional material.

If you do not wish images of yourself to be published, you may opt out by contacting the Chairman of the Annual Conference Committee (currently Jim Laughlin and Megan Baker). Conference staff must abide by the rules outlined below.

B. Photography/Recording by Attendees

  1. Audio/Video Recording of Talks
Only official conference A/V (i.e., from AAAE) are permitted to record talks. No other recording devices should be used during your talk or anyone else's. If you would like to make your own recording, please contact AAAE staff to request an exemption to this rule.

  2. Photography
We encourage attendees to take and share their own photographs, as long as the rules below are followed.

C. Photography/Recording Rules

Any photography/recording that is legally allowed in public spaces is allowed at Bird Strike Committee USA conferences.

Photography/recording should be treated like other potentially harassing interpersonal interaction. That is, when one person in the interaction says "stop" or "leave me alone" (etc...), the interaction must end immediately. In this case, attendees should not attempt to photograph that individual again.

Photography/recording shouldn't be done in such a way as to hide from the subject that it's happening. The subject may inspect the photo/recording at any time and, if requested, the photo/footage/etc... must be deleted immediately.

D. How to Report Violations or Issues

Please report any violations or issues with recording or photography directly to the Chairman of the Annual Conference Committee (currently Jim Laughlin and Megan Baker).
