Michael Whitaker Confirmed as FAA Administrator

October 24, 2023

The United States Senate this afternoon confirmed Michael Whitaker to be Administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration for a five-year term by a vote of 98 to 0 . Whitaker, who brings extensive public and private sector aviation experience to the role, has committed to focusing on safety, addressing FAA staffing challenges, and incorporating new entrants into the national airspace. He is expected to be sworn in before the Wednesday deadline for Acting Administrator Polly Trottenberg to step down. The FAA has not had a permanent, confirmed administrator in place since Steve Dickson stepped down at the end of March 2022.

Following the confirmation vote, AAAE President and CEO Todd Hauptli stated 'As we enter a period of transformational change in the aviation industry, we are fortunate to have an experienced, forward-leaning leader at the FAA with Mike Whitaker. Throughout his career in both the public and private sectors, Administrator Whitaker has brought people together and driven technological advancements and innovation - both of which are critical at this important time for our industry. AAAE and the airport community look forward to working with Mike and his team in the days ahead.'
