Airport Alert: 2021 AAAE Federal Affairs Annual Report

January 7, 2022

The AAAE Legislative, Regulatory, and Transportation Security & Facilitation teams are pleased to present you with the 2021 Federal Affairs Annual Report.

With your active involvement and support, airports were able to achieve significant results in Washington in 2021, including passage of an additional $8 billion in coronavirus relief (bringing the total for 2020 and 2021 to $20 billion) and enactment of the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which includes $25 billion over the next five years to upgrade airports, Contract Towers, and the nation's air traffic control system. Beyond Capitol Hill, the team worked diligently to advocate for the expedited release of these funds with as much flexibility as possible and assisted airports in navigating ongoing policy and operational challenges and complexity associated with the pandemic and recovery.

The report highlights those efforts and underscores the importance of continued, active engagement in Washington.

We offer our sincere thanks to our 2021 Federal Affairs Members and to our volunteer leaders, who, along with our staff, worked throughout the year to advance the airport agenda in the nation's capital. The importance of your active participation on our regular calls, your individual advocacy with your congressional delegations, and your financial support for the AAAE Federal Affairs Membership cannot be overstated.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank those of you who have already supported or have pledged to support the 2022 AAAE Federal Affairs Membership. AAAE's Federal Affairs efforts are supported directly by the revenue we receive from these voluntary memberships. Your participation and financial support keeps the talented team you see in action every day and hear from each week on our regular calls fully engaged on your behalf.

If you are not already participating for 2022, we encourage you to do so as soon as you are able. You can contact me or Janet Bennett if you need additional information or have any questions.

We thank you once again for your support and look forward to continuing our service to you in what promises to be a busy 2022. Thank you, and Happy New Year!
