Airport Alert: Senate Clears Coronavirus Relief/FY21 Omnibus, Sending Package to President
December 21, 2020
Following House passage earlier this evening, the United States Senate on an overwhelming bipartisan vote of 91-7 has just approved a massive 5,593-page bill that includes $900 billion in coronavirus relief and $1.4 trillion in funding for the federal government for Fiscal Year 2021. The measure now moves to the White House for the President's signature into law.
As we have reported, the coronavirus relief section includes $2 billion for airports and concessionaires. It also contains $15 billion to extend the Payroll Support Program for airline workers through March 2021 and another $1 billion for airline contractors.
The funding portions of the bill provide $3.35 billion in "regular" AIP funding along with $400 million in additional funding for discretionary grants. Additionally, $46.4 million is provided for the TSA LEO Reimbursement Program and $87.2 million is slated to continue TSA exit lane staffing. The measure also directs TSA to provide a briefing to Congress on the agency's proposed national ASP amendment regarding airport worker screening, including the full impact, costs, and benefits of the proposal on all affected airports.
It has been a long haul getting to this point. Again, we greatly appreciate your continued support and engagement.
