The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced that the federal transportation mask mandate will be extended for another 15 days
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced that the federal transportation mask mandate will be extended for another 15 days, until May 3, 2022. The current requirement was set to expire next Monday, April 18. This is the fifth extension of the original mandate.
The latest extension comes amid a surge in COVID cases. During the 15-day extension period, CDC will assess the potential impact the recent rise of COVID-19 cases has had on severe diseases including hospitalizations, deaths, and healthcare system capacity.
The Transportation Security Administration has informed AAAE that they will be updating the Security Directive (SD) extending the federal mask mandate for airport operators to reflect the May 3 date. The updated SD will be posted on the TSA web board on HSIN later this week. There are no other significant changes expected in the SD other than the expiration date.

We will keep you apprised of any further mask-related developments.
