Airport Alert: Senate Confirms Trottenberg as Deputy Secretary of Transportation
April 13, 2021
The Senate today approved Polly Trottenberg, President Biden's pick to serve as Deputy Secretary of Transportation, by a vote of 82 to 15. The endorsement comes as the administration is gearing up to push a massive $2.3 trillion infrastructure bill that proposes $20 billion for airports.
Trottenberg is well-known and well-respected in the transportation community. Most recently she served as the New York City Department of Transportation Commissioner. She also logged time on Capitol Hill and served at DOT as the Assistant Secretary for Transportation Policy and the Under Secretary for Policy.
Former DOT Secretary Ray Lahood introduced Trottenberg at her nomination hearing before the Senate Commerce Committee last month. Lahood called Trottenberg the "right person for this job" and told lawmakers that he couldn't "think of anyone more qualified to help Secretary Buttigieg lead the Department of Transportation."
