Airport Alert: Industry Guidance Released to Promote the Health and Safety of All Travelers
May 4, 2020
This afternoon, the U.S. Travel Association issued health and safety guidance, "Travel in the New Normal", aimed at keeping travel industry customers and employees safe as the country emerges from the COVID-19 pandemic. This guidance was shared with the White House, with all state governors, and more broadly throughout the travel industry. A copy of the U.S. Travel Associations press release can be found here and the detailed guidance can be found here.
AAAE worked with the U.S. Travel Association and many of our aviation partners, such as A4A and ACI-NA, as well as a broader coalition of travel industry representatives, to develop these industry guidelines to protect travelers and our employees in the "new normal" post-COVID-19 environment.
The guidance focused on six main areas:
• Adapting operations, modifying employee practices and/or redesigning public spaces to help protect employees and customers;
• Implementing touchless solutions, where practical, to limit the opportunity for virus transmission while also enabling a positive travel experience;
• Adopting and implementing enhanced sanitation procedures specifically designed to combat the transmission of COVID-19;
• Promoting health screening measures for employees and isolating workers with possible COVID-19 symptoms as well as providing health resources to customers;
• Establishing a set of procedures aligned with CDC guidance should an employee test positive for COVID-19; and
• Following best practices in food and beverage service to promote the health of employees and customers.
AAAE has advocated for clear and consistent guidelines to provide the highest levels of health and safety for air travelers and airport workers. By working together with our industry partners and the government, we can begin to reopen our economy and responsibly get America traveling again.
