Hauptli to Testify Before Senate Commerce Committee

AAAE President and CEO Todd Hauptli is scheduled to testify at 2:30 p.m. Eastern today at a hearing before the Senate Commerce Committee on "The State of the Aviation Industry: Examining the Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic." Witness testimony, opening statements, and a live video of the hearing will be available on www.commerce.senate.gov.

Airlines for America President and CEO Nick Calio and Aerospace Industries Association President and CEO Eric Fanning will also appear at the hearing along with Dr. Hilary Godwin, the Dean of the School of Public Health at the University of Washington. Witnesses will provide an update on the current status of the aviation industry and address challenges resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. The hearing will also examine the implementation of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.

In his testimony, Hauptli will focus on the impact of COVID-19 on airports and the aviation ecosystem; the importance of CARES Act funding in providing a critical financial lifeline to airports; efforts airports are taking to protect the traveling public and airport workers; recommendations for post-COVID resumption of travel; and recommendations for future relief and recovery efforts, including additional federal support for commercial and general aviation airports, business aviation, concessionaires, and other airport partners that have been significantly impacted by the crisis.
