Security Policy Alert: TSA Issues ASP Amendment on Staff Screening for Notice and Comment
October 6, 2020
TSA has posted for notice and comment on the Homeland Security Information Network (HSIN) a proposed Airport Security Program (ASP) amendment regarding employee screening and insider threat mitigation. Comments are due on December 7, 2020. AAAE urged TSA to allow for an extended comment period given the current circumstances and the complexity of the proposed amendment.
As expected, the proposed ASP amendment requires insider threat vulnerability assessments, insider threat risk mitigation plans based on the vulnerability assessments, a certain amount of required screening of aviation workers, and the purchase and use of explosive detection equipment by airport operators for employee screening.
As always, AAAE will submit comments on behalf of our airport members. We will also discuss the proposed amendment in detail on the next AAAE Transportation Security Services Committee call scheduled on Wednesday, October 14 at 2:00 p.m. ET and solicit feedback and comments on our November TSS Committee Call.
In the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or would like to share your immediate feedback and concerns.
