TSA Shares 2020 Thanksgiving Holiday Security Operations Plan

November 13, 2020

Today, TSA shared with AAAE the agency's security operations plan -- often referred to as a placemat -- for the 2020 Thanksgiving holiday. Despite the recent increase in COVID-19 infections across the country, TSA expects, based on Secure Flight data, to screen 6.9 million passengers and crew from November 24 to November 30. This represents a checkpoint volume decrease of approximately 53% compared to the same period in 2019.

AAAE's President and CEO Todd Hauptli plans to participate in a press conference next week with TSA Administrator David Pekoske to highlight the efforts by airports and TSA to prepare for Thanksgiving travel and welcome passengers that may not have flown for some time. TSA's "Stay Healthy. Stay Secure." campaign is aimed at helping passengers prepare for new procedures at the security checkpoint, including new touchless transactions and social distancing requirements.
