TSA Issues Updated FAQs on Cybersecurity Joint Emergency Amendment

November 21, 2023

TSA issued its fourth version of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) on the Joint Emergency Amendment (EA 23-01) on Cybersecurity -- Performance Based Measures. The joint EA was originally issued in March 2023 and applies to Category X and I airports and certain major commercial and cargo air carriers.

The updated questions clarify if TSA inspectors can copy sensitive information provided on-site by a regulated entity; address delegated/shared responsibilities for critical systems, specifically for regional air carriers doing business as mainline carriers; and provide further clarification of the Policy Clarification Notice (PCN 2023-Joint EA-002) issued on September 8 regarding critical systems. Specifically, TSA addresses the use and meaning of the term "Transportation Essential Services/Operations (TESOs)" in the PCN.
