Security Policy Alert: TSA Issues UAS Incident Reporting Requirement for Airport Operators

December 7, 2022

On December 7, TSA issued as final Airport Security Program (ASP) amendment TSA-NA-14-01B, Incidents and Suspicious Activities Reporting. The ASP amendment series was updated to include a requirement for airport operators to immediately report disruptive Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) incidents to the TSA Federal Security Director (FSD) or designee. The final amendment was issued today and goes into effect on July 1, 2023.

With the final amendment, TSA also issued a Supplemental Reporting Guide which outlines specific data points that should be provided to TSA, if available, when reporting UAS incidents. TSA also posted a disposition of the comments submitted by AAAE and airport operators in March in response to the then-proposed ASP amendment, noting significant changes in the accompanying transmittal memo.

The final ASP amendment and supporting documents can be found on HSIN.
