Security Policy Alert: TSA Issues 2021 Winter Holiday Security Operations Plan

TSA has shared with AAAE its 2021 Winter Holiday -- Security Operations Plan, commonly referred to as a placemat. Speaking at the 21st Annual AAAE Aviation Security Summit this week, TSA Executive Assistant Administrator for Security Operations Darby LaJoye stated that TSA is well-prepared for the surge of holiday travelers, with roughly 44,000 Transportation Security Officers and 400 Passenger Screening Canine Teams in place.
Speaking at the Airports-Only meeting following the Security Summit, Susan Tashiro, Assistant Administrator for Domestic Aviation Operations, added that TSA expects to screen 26.3 million passengers and crew from December 22 to January 3, with the highest volumes expected on December 24, December 26 and January 2. Tashiro clarified that TSA will also have over 660 National Deployment Force (NDF) officers deployed at 66 airports, with about 200 NDF officers deployed to selected high-volume airports specifically for the winter travel surge.
