Security Policy Alert: DHS Issues NTAS Bulletin on Heightened U.S. Threat Environment

January 27, 2021

Today, Acting DHS Secretary David Pekoske issued a National Terrorism Advisory System (NTAS) bulletin due to the heightened threat environment across the United States, specifically in regard to ideologically motivated violent extremists with objections to the exercise of governmental authority (such as mandatory COVID-19 related mitigation measures like requiring face masks) and the presidential transition.

The bulletin was issued today and will remain in effect as long as April 30, 2021. As a reminder, a bulletin is not related to any specific or credible threat and, as result, does not require airport operators to take action under TSA-NA-17-01. A bulletin describes current developments or general trends regarding threats of terrorism.

The NTAS bulletin can be found on the DHS web site and has also been posted to HSIN.
