DHS SAFETY Act Briefing, Monday, March 25, 2 p.m. ET

As discussed on AAAE's Transportation Security Services Committee call, we have invited the DHS SAFETY Act office to provide an overview of the SAFETY Act and the application process to our airport members. Don Roberts, the Acting Deputy Director for the Office of SAFETY Act Implementation (OSAI) within DHS' Science and Technology Directorate, will provide a briefing on Monday, March 26, at 2 p.m. ET. In response to liability concerns related to aviation worker screening raised by AAAE as well as individual airports in their petitions for reconsideration of the final ASP amendment, TSA referred airport operators to the SAFETY Act. The SAFETY Act allows entities engaged in measures intended to prevent terrorist acts to seek a limitation on potential liability arising from those efforts. According to TSA, liability protection under the SAFETY Act can extend to screening operations.
