Security Policy Alert: TSA Issues Updated Alternative Measure
April 23, 2020
TSA has informed AAAE that the Executive Assistant Administrator for Operations Support Stacey Fitzmaurice has approved and signed National Alternative Measure (AM) 1542-20-03A. It has an effective date of April 23, 2020, and an expiration date of July 24, 2020. The updated version allows flexibility for the amount of time an applicant may need to obtain their ID media.
TSA will post the updated National AM on the Homeland Security Information Network (HSIN) tomorrow morning. On a related note, TSA also recently posted an updated version of Security Directive 1542-18-01A. Regarding SD 1542-18-01A, there are no new procedures required by the updated SD. The revisions consist of clarifications, language updates, and the removal of requirements that are now obsolete and/or are addressed in more recently issued policy documents. These changes are not related to or in response to COVID-19.
AAAE continues to work closely with TSA on regulatory relief and alternative measures related to badging processes and other airport security responsibilities in response to the impacts of COVID-19. We will continue to keep you updated on these efforts. In the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or have identified areas for regulatory relief.
