Security Policy Alert: TSA Monthly Call Reminder, Information Requested on National Alternative Measure 1542-20-03, and ACC Webinar on PARAS 0028
May 5, 2021
TSA Call Reminder
As a reminder, TSA will host its monthly conference call for airport stakeholders tomorrow, Thursday, May 5, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. ET. The call-in number is 1-800-857-5826 and the passcode is 9596778; please note that TSA recently updated the call-in number and passcode so please be sure to use the most up-to-date call-in information.
TSA plans to discuss several items on tomorrow's call, including recent updates to the Homeland Security Information Network (HSIN), REAL ID, the Rap Back program, a Compliance update, a Safe Skies update, and policy updates, including the status of the National Alternative Measure 1542-20-03B, which expires on June 30, 2021.
National Alternative Measure 1542-20-03D
TSA issued and has twice extended the National Alternative Measure series 1542-20-03, which provides airport operators relief from certain security requirements due to the COVID-19 pandemic. TSA is currently discussing if the Alternative Measure should be further extended or allowed to expire at the end of June. AAAE has provided feedback that our airport members continue to find value in the Alternative Measure, particularly in regard to allowing expired identification to be used for identity verification and suspension of the physical touch inspection requirement. As AAAE continues its conversations with TSA regarding the need for a further extension, it would be helpful to share specific examples from our airport members. Please contact AAAE's Colleen Chamberlain by close of business tomorrow if your airport continues to have a need for the provisions of the national AM 1542-20-03D.
ACC Webinar on PARAS 0028
Safe Skies has been working with Airports Consultants Council (ACC) to offer a free webinar on PARAS 0028 entitled "The Evolution of Airport Security Technology and Design Practices." ACC has invited the airport members of AAAE's Transportation Security Services Committee to join the webinar if interested. The webinar is scheduled for Friday, May 7 at 11:30 a.m. ET. A description of the webinar and registration process follow:
Evolution of Airport Security Technology and Design Practices
Airport security technology and design practices continue to advance in response to evolving threats and federal requirements. Leading design professionals will discuss the current landscape of technology systems and design practices that can best prepare airport facilities for these increasingly complex security challenges. Participants will also receive an overview of the February release of PARAS 0028 Recommended Security Guidelines for Airport Planning, Design, and Construction. This document represents the sixth version of the guidelines and is intended to support airport security managers, engineering consultants, architectural firms and other airport construction leaders in responding to new security threats and regulations.
Join as industry experts who served on the PARAS project panel and the document'™s authors share their outlooks on security system and design advances and the role of the newly updated guidelines.
