Security Policy Alert: TSA Announces New Chief Innovation Officer
May 19, 2020
TSA has informed AAAE that the agency has named Daniel McCoy as its new Chief Innovation Officer, replacing the inaugural Chief Innovation Officer Alexis Long. As a reminder, the Chief Innovation Officer is distinct and separate from TSA's Innovation Task Force, which is under TSA Requirements and Capabilities Analysis and led by Acting Director Matt Gilkeson.
Following is TSA Administrator David Pekoske's message to TSA employees on the appointment of McCoy:
I am pleased to announce Daniel McCoy as our agency's new Chief Innovation Officer (CInO). He joins our team as part of Strategy, Policy Coordination, and Innovation (SP&I) and will lead TSA's effort to continue to develop a culture of innovation throughout our agency. Dan will also help leaders across TSA discover and field new approaches that will help us adapt more quickly to the ever-changing security landscape.
Dan is a strategic management and innovation expert who comes to us from Deloitte Consulting LLP. He has significant experience in building ecosystems where government and private sector partners can work together to accelerate innovation. At Deloitte, he most recently served as the Government & Public Services (GPS) Domain Manager, focused on developing new partnerships, businesses and technologies to support federal and state governments, as well as higher education institutions.
The CInO position is a three-year appointment that reports directly to SP&I's Executive Director and will leverage SP&I's enterprise-level efforts to drive innovation throughout the agency. I have confidence that Dan will excel in this role and provide TSA with valuable expertise and a unique perspective to further advance our enterprise innovation culture.
I also want to take this opportunity to thank Alexis Long, our outgoing Chief Innovation Officer, for his significant contributions to TSA and our mission. As the inaugural CInO, Alexis defined the role and helped establish the need for an enterprise innovation capacity. Alexis will continue to serve as a Senior Advisor within the CInO office through September.
Please join me in welcoming Dan to his new position and thanking Alexis for his continued service.
