Security Policy Alert: TSA Releases Communicable Disease Response Playbook

June 24, 2020

TSA has shared with AAAE the agency's Communicable Disease Response Playbook.  The document will also be posted on HSIN.  The Playbook consolidates many of the COVID-19 related documents already shared with industry, such as cleaning standards, the cleaning reimbursement application process, checkpoint signage and digital assets regarding physical distancing.  The Playbook also includes new information related to acrylic shield barriers.

Following is the message TSA provided to AAAE along with the Communicable Disease Response Playbook:

TSA is implementing public health and enhanced cleaning solutions to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and other communicable diseases and instill confidence in passengers and officers. TSA is also working with key internal and external stakeholders to evaluate additional solutions for impact and effectiveness.

TSA has one overarching goal to minimize the transmission and spread of COVID-19 and support the safe resumption of air travel by implementing four public health strategies:
      1. Minimize Touch
      2. Increase Social Distance
      3. Enhanced Cleaning of the Checkpoint
      4. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

This document is organized into sections per these four agency strategies. Within each section, TSA provides an overview of applicable requirements, best practices or recommendations for further mitigating the spread of COVID-19 and other communicable diseases.

The first appendix of this document provides instructions, resources, and links to tactical information regarding implementation of these solutions in a variety of checkpoint environments.

This Playbook is an iterative document that will be continuously updated and published on a bi-weekly basis. The TSA Pandemic Planning Executive Council (PPEC) Working Group team will add, remove, or edit content based on feedback from the field as well as any additional leadership decisions or guidance. Please provide any input directly to Christina Peach and ORCA Comms.
