FAA Announces $123 Million in FY24 AIP Grants for Projects at 235 Airports

Today, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced over $123 million in infrastructure grant awards as part of the fiscal year 2024 (FY24) Airport Improvement Program (AIP), all in the form of AIP entitlement grants. The grants awarded today will fund a variety of projects at 235 airports, including construction and improvement of airport facilities, repairs to runways, taxiways, and aprons, and purchasing equipment needed to operate and maintain airports.
“The Biden-Harris Administration continues to make our aviation system safer, more accessible, and more resilient through initiatives like the Airport Improvement Program. The grants we’re announcing today will help modernize hundreds of airports across the country and better meet the current and future demands of the flying public,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg today.
The AIP grants announced by FAA were made available by the $3.35 billion in “regular” AIP funding that Congress provided in March 2024 as part of the FY24 DOT/FAA spending bill. Today’s announcement brings the total amount of FY24 AIP grants awarded to approximately $179.8 million after a small number of AIP discretionary grants were awarded earlier this month.

What’s Next? FAA is expected to continue to award FY24 AIP grants through September of this year. Airports should be aware of two other notable developments expected this summer as it relates to other infrastructure funding programs:
• FY25 Airport Terminal Program (ATP) Application Period: FAA is expected to release the notice of funding opportunity (NOFO) for FY25 ATP grants in early July, possibly as early as Monday, July 1. This will kick off a 30-day application period. Airports will have the opportunity to compete for another $1 billion in funding for terminal development projects.
• FY23 Supplemental Discretionary Grants: FAA is expected to release within the coming months a list of projects that will receive a share of approximately $269 million in supplemental discretionary funds that Congress provided as part of the FY23 omnibus spending bill. We are expecting an announcement in August or September.
