Regulatory Alert: DOT Announces $479.1 Million in Supplemental AIP Grants for 95 Airports
October 5, 2021
Today the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) announced the award of $479.1 million in supplemental discretionary grants as part of the fiscal year (FY) 2021 Airport Improvement Program (AIP). DOT indicated that the grants are intended to increase safety, sustainability, and accessibility at U.S. airports. The grant awards announced today will fund projects at 95 airports across all 50 states and will be available at a 100 percent federal share pursuant to funding that was made available through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).
'These grants will help strengthen our country's airports and the communities they serve by making investments that create jobs and increase safety, sustainability and accessibility,' said Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.
The supplemental discretionary grants that DOT and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced today were made available by the $400 million that Congress provided late last year as part of the FY 2021 omnibus appropriations package. The grants are in addition to the $3.35 billion in 'regular' AIP funding that Congress provided in the same appropriations package. DOT and FAA have already announced all the regular FY 2021 AIP grants that have been awarded.
