Regulatory Alert:FAA Deputy Administrator Dan Elwell Plans to Depart Agency
October 29, 2020
Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Deputy Administrator Dan Elwell has reportedly told Reuters that he is planning to depart the agency near the end of November 2020. Elwell's departure would occur around the same time that FAA is expected to approve the Boeing 737 MAX to return to service after being grounded in March 2018.
Elwell has served as Deputy Administrator since August 2019. Prior to that, he served as Acting FAA Administrator, succeeding former Administrator Michael Huerta when his term expired in January 2018. Elwell returned as Deputy Administrator when current FAA Administrator Steve Dickson was confirmed by the Senate and sworn into office in August 2019.
