DOT Announces $521 Million in FY 2020 AIP Grants

February 19, 2020

Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao today announced the award of $520.5 million in airport infrastructure grants, the first tranche of FY 2020 funding from the Airport Improvement Program. The grants announced today will fund projects at 287 airports in 41 states.

"This $520.5 million in federal support to airports across the country will help to keep our nation's airports in good shape and make air travel a better experience for passengers," Secretary Chao said.

The grants that Secretary Chao announced today were made available by the $3.35 billion in "regular" AIP funding that Congress provided late last year as part of the FY 2020 appropriations package. The Secretary's announcement includes AIP entitlements and discretionary grants. However, it does not include any supplemental AIP grants.

As a reminder, the FY 2020 spending package included another $400 million in extra AIP funding. Overall, Congress has approved almost $2 billion in supplemental funds in the past three fiscal years. AAAE continues to urge lawmakers to provide another round of supplemental AIP funding in the FY 2021 transportation appropriations bill.
