Regulatory Alert: DOT Announces a 'Mask Up' Educational Campaign

March 19, 2021

Today the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) launched a campaign called 'Mask Up' that is intended to ensure the safety of transportation workers by educating travelers on their obligation to wear a mask when traveling. As airports are aware, there is a nationwide mandate to wear a mask while traveling pursuant to an order from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and a current Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Security Directive. The new campaign will provide airports and other transportation providers with a 'digital toolkit' that may be used to educate the public on the mask requirement.

'Throughout the pandemic, transportation workers have played a vital role connecting Americans to their jobs, keeping goods moving, and ensuring that vaccines get to where they're needed,' said U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. 'With this campaign, we'll send a clear message to people who travel: When you wear a mask, you're protecting the safety of our essential transportation workers, your fellow passengers, and yourself.'

You can access the 'Mask Up' digital toolkit, including FAQs, social media messaging, graphics, and more resources, at DOT's 'Mask Up' website. DOT's press release on the campaign can be viewed here.
