Regulatory Alert: DOT Announces $627.7 Million in AIP Grants for Projects at 390 Airports

April 1, 2021

Today the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) announced the award of $627.7 million in airport infrastructure grants as part of the fiscal year (FY) 2021 Airport Improvement Program (AIP). The 449 grants announced today will fund projects at 390 airports in 39 states.

'Modernizing our infrastructure in a way that creates jobs, ensures safety, combats climate change, and fosters equity is a top priority for the Biden-Harris Administration. These Airport Improvement grants will help airports across the country better serve their communities,' Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said.

The AIP grants that Secretary Buttigieg announced today were made available by the $3.35 billion in 'regular' AIP funding that Congress provided late last year as part of the FY 2021 omnibus appropriations package. This is the second round of grants released this year. In February, DOT announced $76 million in FY 2021 AIP grants for projects at three airports.

As a reminder, the American Rescue Plan included $608 million to ensure AIP grants awarded in FY 2021 are at 100 percent federal share.
