Regulatory Alert: FAA Reminds Airports of Deadline to Apply for CRRSAA Airport Coronavirus Response Grants

April 30, 2021

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is reminding airport sponsors that June 30 is the deadline to apply for their share of the $2 billion in grants that have been awarded and made available for airports and eligible concessionaires through the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriation Act (CRRSAA). Based on AAAE's conversations with FAA Office of Airports, the agency has executed slightly more than $1 billion in CRSSAA grants; however, there is almost $800 million in grant applications that are waiting to be completed and executed by airport sponsors. FAA is encouraging airports to complete and execute these remaining CRRSAA grant applications as soon as possible.

In addition to CRSSAA grant funds, FAA continues to work toward distributing the $8 billion in funding that has been made available to airports and eligible concessionaires through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). According to FAA Office of Airports, agency resources have been directed toward expediting the execution of CRRSAA grants before the upcoming deadline. This has pushed back the timeline for rolling out ARPA grant awards and guidance. FAA is optimistic that accelerated execution of CRRSAA grants will enable the agency to make available ARPA grant funds more quickly to airports.

FAA Webinar on Airport Concessions Relief Grants. Last week FAA Offices of Airports and Civil Rights held a live webinar to answer questions on Airport Concessions Relief Grants that have been made available through CRRSAA. FAA published a recording of the webinar, which focused on the definition of rent for purposes of these relief grants, submitting reimbursement requests, and conducting consultations with ACDBEs, among other issues.
