Regulatory Alert: DOT Announces Nearly $800 Million in AIP Grants for Projects at 347 Airports

June 30, 2020

Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao today announced the award of $793.4 million in airport infrastructure grants, including $689 million in Airport Improvement Program (AIP) grants and an additional $104.4 million in Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act grants to provide for the 100 percent federal share. The grants announced today will fund projects at 347 airports in 46 states and 4 territories.

This nearly $800 million Federal investment in airport infrastructure will strengthen safety, improve travel, generate jobs and provide many economic benefits for local communities," Secretary Chao said.

The $689 million in AIP grants that Secretary Chao announced today were made available by the $3.35 billion in "regular" AIP funding that Congress provided late last year as part of the FY 2020 appropriations package. The U.S. Department of Transportation previously announced $1.139 billion in FY 2020 AIP grants in separate announcements on February 19 and April 30.

Today's announcement also includes an additional $104.4 million in grants made available by the CARES Act, which provided FAA with an additional $500 million to increase the federal share to 100 percent for FY 2020 AIP grants.
