Regulatory Alert: DOT Announces $845 Million in AIP Grants for 338 Airports
July 1, 2021
Today the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) announced the award of $845 million in airport grants as part of the fiscal year (FY) 2021 Airport Improvement Program (AIP). DOT indicated that the grant-funded projects will mitigate environmental impacts, increase accessibility, and expand capacity at U.S. airports. The grant awards announced today will fund projects at 388 airports in 49 states and will be available at a 100 percent federal share pursuant to funding that was made available through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).
'We don't want to just build our airports back to the way things were before the pandemic. We want our airports to be better than ever–accessible to all, delivering maximum benefit to their communities, and helping directly and indirectly create jobs for millions of Americans,' Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said today.
The AIP grants that Secretary Buttigieg announced today were made available by the $3.35 billion in 'regular' AIP funding that Congress provided late last year as part of the FY 2021 omnibus appropriations package. This is the fourth round of grants released this year. DOT has already previously announced over $1.6 billion in FY 2021 AIP grants in separate announcements on February 19, April 1, and May 13.
