FAA Releases $587 Million in FY23 AIP Grants for Projects at Over 232 Airports

July 20, 2023

Today, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) released a list of over $587 million in infrastructure grants as part of the fiscal year 2023 (FY23) Airport Improvement Program (AIP), including $319.2 million in entitlement grants and $267.9 million in discretionary grants. The grants awarded today will fund a variety of projects at over 232 airports, including construction and improvement of airport facilities, repairs to runways and taxiways, and purchasing equipment needed to operate and maintain airports.

The AIP grants released today were made available by the $3.35 billion in 'regular' AIP funding that Congress provided in December 2022 as part of the FY23 omnibus spending bill. FAA awarded about $1.6 billion in FY23 AIP grants between March and June. Today's release brings the total to approximately $2.2 billion for FY23 AIP grants.

As of last year, FAA stopped issuing press releases for AIP grant award announcements. However, you can review the full list of grant awards released today here and a map of all the awards here.

Other Developments and Reminders: As it relates to airport development funding, airports should be aware of two other notable developments and reminders:

• Airport Infrastructure Grant (AIG) Program Funds Awarded: Earlier this week, FAA released a list of over $186 million in grants as part of the AIG Program, which was created by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) and provides $15 billion in entitlement funds to airports over a 5-year period. A total of $1.381 billion in AIG funds have been announced so far.

• AAAE's Overview of FAA Airport Development Grant Programs: AAAE has developed a one-page overview of the various grant programs and funds being administered by FAA, including relevant timelines, to help airports navigate the opportunities available for infrastructure funding.
