Regulatory Alert: DOT Announces Over $273 Million in AIP Grants for Projects at 184 Airports

July 28, 2020

Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao today announced the award of over $273 million in airport infrastructure grants, which will fund projects at 184 airports in 41 states and 6 territories.

"This $273 million federal investment in our nation's airports will strengthen safety, improve travel, generate jobs, and benefit local communities," Secretary Chao said.

A total of $242 million in AIP grants announced today were made available by the $3.35 billion in "regular" AIP funding that Congress provided late last year as part of the FY 2020 appropriations package. The U.S. Department of Transportation previously announced $1.828 billion in FY 2020 AIP grants in separate announcements on February 19, April 30, and June 30

Today's announcement also includes an additional $31 million in grants made available by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, which provided FAA with an additional $500 million to increase the federal share to 100 percent for FY 2020 AIP grants.
