Regulatory Alert: FAA Announces $766 Million in AIP Grants for 279 Airports
August 24, 2021
Today the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced the award of $766 million in airport grants as part of the fiscal year (FY) 2021 Airport Improvement Program (AIP). FAA indicated that the grants are intended to build more sustainable airports, increase accessibility, improve safety, and expand capacity at U.S. airports. The grant awards announced today will fund projects at 279 airports in 44 states and will be available at a 100 percent federal share pursuant to funding that was made available through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).
'These grants will improve safety, sustainability and accessibility at airports across our country,' FAA Administrator Steve Dickson said today.
The AIP grants that FAA announced today were made available by the $3.35 billion in 'regular' AIP funding that Congress provided late last year as part of the FY 2021 omnibus appropriations package. This is the fifth round of grants released this year. The U.S. Department of Transportation and FAA have already previously announced over $2.4 billion in FY 2021 AIP grants in separate announcements on February 19, April 1, May 13, and July 1.
