Regulatory Alert: DOT Announces $431.8 Million in AIP Grants for 60 Airports
September 21, 2021
Today the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) announced the award of $431.8 million in airport grants as part of the fiscal year (FY) 2021 Airport Improvement Program (AIP). DOT indicated that the grants are intended to increase safety and accessibility and reduce environmental impacts at U.S. airports. The grant awards announced today will fund projects at 60 airports in 31 states and will be available at a 100 percent federal share pursuant to funding that was made available through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).
'To get passengers where they need to be safely and sustainably, we must make ongoing investments in our aviation system. These grants will help fulfill our commitment to build a safer, more equitable and more sustainable future,' said Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. 'These grants will improve safety, sustainability and accessibility at airports across our country,' Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Administrator Steve Dickson said today.
The AIP grants that DOT and FAA announced today were made available by the $3.35 billion in 'regular' AIP funding that Congress provided late last year as part of the FY 2021 omnibus appropriations package. This is the sixth and final round of grants released this year. DOT and FAA have already previously announced five rounds of FY 2021 AIP grants in separate announcements on February 19, April 1, May 13, July 1, and August 24.
