DOT Announces $335 Million in AIP Grants for Projects at 80 Airports
September 24, 2020
Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao today announced the award of $335 million in airport infrastructure grants, including $300 million in Airport Improvement Program (AIP) grants and an additional $35 million in Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act grants to provide for the 100 percent federal share. The grants announced today will fund projects at 80 airports in 25 states.
"Airport infrastructure projects funded by this $335 million in federal funding will advance safety, improve travel, generate jobs and provide other economic benefits for local communities," Secretary Chao said.
The $300 million in AIP grants that Secretary Chao announced today were made available by the $3.35 billion in "regular" AIP funding that Congress provided late last year as part of the FY 2020 appropriations package. The U.S. Department of Transportation previously announced over $3 billion in FY 2020 AIP grants in separate announcements on February 19, April 30, June 30, July 28, and September 1.
Today's announcement also includes an additional $35 million in grants made available by the CARES Act, which provided FAA with an additional $500 million to increase the federal share to 100 percent for FY 2020 AIP grants.
