An Invitation from the Symposium Chair

Fin Bonset, Symposium Chair

Greetings, Dear Friends and Partners in the Aviation Industry!

You are cordially invited to the 2025 Airport Planning, Design, and Construction Symposium scheduled for March 12-14, 2025. The Airport Consultants Council, the American Association of Airport Executives, and the incredible all-volunteer Symposium Planning Committee are excited to welcome you to San Antonio in the great State of Texas.

In true San Antonian fashion, we expect you to “show us your shoes!” (look up this great “Fiesta” tradition!) and “show” us your talents in enhancing our industry through embracing technology and preparing the next generation for an aviation-centric future.

Per the Symposium mission, as always, we are focused on bringing you a program full of Robust, Relevant and Forward-Thinking topics facilitated by significant industry leaders. We are also excited to bring our well-known Symposium-centric engagement from both TSA and FAA. This has led to record attendance year-over-year as we recovered from Covid. We have ensured that focused Keynote and Plenary sessions will bring thought-provoking discussions that will highlight current industry needs.

We are also committed to the implementation of our ACC/AAAE combined Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) programs that will ensure our diverse membership, staff, and all other participants have an equal voice and be treated with respect in all forms before, during and after our conference.

The Planning Committee’s Call for Topics resulted in an amazing array of ideas. As with last year’s conference, there was great interest in emerging practices so, along with sessions in the standing tracks: Planning/Environmental, Terminal/Landside, Engineering/Airside, and Project Management/Construction Management; we have kept our popular new Innovations Track. The ever-popular Young Professionals Program will be back along with plenty of time for connecting with your partners and meeting some new ones. Speaking of new relationships, this year’s Symposium will also aim to increase international content and collaboration so that we may learn from the rest of the world as well.

The technical workshop sessions will cover a wide range of topics requested by you, including:

  • Equity in airport business practices, exploring strategies for historically underutilized firms, prime firms, and airport owners.

  • The advent of Safety Management Systems and how to address airport requirements/needs

  • FAA Reauthorization and how it’s going from an airport infrastructure and regulatory needs perspective.

  • Project funding options and correlating standard and alternative project delivery methods.

  • Passenger experience improvements.

  • Environmental challenges and case study solutions regarding Section 163/743 and PFAS.

  • On-Airport AAM Infrastructure Needs

  • Topics specific to small-hub and general aviation airports.

  • In-bound and out-bound Baggage processing technology needs.

Lastly, my Vice Chair James Gerald and I want to continue to encourage regular attendees of the Symposium to bring along someone new. This request alone has had a tremendous effect on this event.

As we strive to grow our membership and value to the industry, you can convey that message most effectively when introducing an industry partner to the benefits of attending or inviting a young Professional in your organization to propel their career journey through new connections. The Symposium, based on feedback I have heard over my 20 years in attending this event, has always been that this is THE EVENT to learn, network, and make progress in this unique and ever-changing airport industry. Some of my closest long-term friendships have come from this Symposium. And guess what? Texas’ official motto is “Friendship”!

Registration is now open. Check the event website regularly for updates as we continue to confirm speakers and schedule details. You can also find the symposium technical session matrix here.

Now, SHOW US YOUR SHOES!
