About the Conference
In partnership with the Northeast Chapter (NEC) AAAE, we are pleased to present the Hub Airports Winter Operations & Deicing Conference, to be held August 4-6, in Detroit, Michigan.
This popular annual conference will focus on the challenges associated with winter operations at airports and take an in-depth look at the issues, regulations, and new technologies associated with winter operations overall. Through detailed presentations, technology updates, and informative moderated discussions, this conference will allow key airport, airline, and air traffic control decision-makers to address complex issues surrounding winter operations at hub airports. The conference will feature case studies illustrating approaches to snow and ice removal from the most recent winter season, as well as other hot topics like financial planning for winter operations, workforce development post-pandemic, autonomous snow-removal vehicles, and much more. Attendees will receive updates on compliance and regulatory actions from the FAA, as well as exploring the weather forecasting, centralized deicing facilities, and more.
Although the conference originally grew as a resource for large hub operators, medium and small hubs have begun attending as well and have found the discussions to be extremely beneficial. Additionally, as more southern regions become part of the winter discussion, we strongly encourage all southern airports to continue attending this important annual event.
As is tradition at this event, the conference kicks off with an interactive session focused on the hottest topics in an ever-changing environment. Be sure to participate in this icebreaker on Monday August 4, immediately preceding the welcome reception!
Featured Topics

Gregory Kelser, the son of a career military man, attended 10 different schools across the United States and Okinawa before settling in Michigan. He enrolled at Detroit Henry Ford High School, where he was finally able to remain at one school for an extended period—spending three years there before graduating and earning a basketball scholarship to Michigan State University.
At MSU, Gregory distinguished himself both on the court and in the classroom. He was named an All-America performer in basketball and earned first team Academic All-American honors for his academic excellence. As team captain, he led the Spartans to the 1979 NCAA Championship. That same year, he was selected fourth overall in the NBA Draft by the Detroit Pistons and went on to play six seasons in the league.
Gregory currently provides color analysis for Bally Sports Detroit's coverage of the Detroit Pistons. He has worked in various broadcasting roles since 1986, and his Gregory Kelser Basketball Camps have been a well-loved fixture in the metro Detroit area since 1978.

Eric B. Larson is CEO of the Downtown Detroit Partnership. The DDP is a not-for-profit, member-based organization committed to supporting a vibrant, thriving, and welcoming urban center. Its mission is to cultivate economic and social impact in Downtown Detroit by connecting public, private, and philanthropic sectors; providing stewardship of public spaces; and developing programs that engage and benefit all. Larson has been a member of the DDP Board of Directors since 1990 and took on the CEO role in 2014, just months after the City of Detroit entered bankruptcy. Under his leadership, the DDP has played a pivotal role in Downtown Detroit’s transformation, and the organization is nationally recognized for urban innovation and planning, placemaking and public spaces, economic development, and neighborhood development.
