IAAE Launches Inaugural Executive Certificate in Applied AI for Airports

November 2025

An elite group of airport executives from around the world gathered November 19-21, 2025, for the inaugural edition of the virtual Executive Certificate in Applied AI for Airports, a new program aimed at helping industry leaders translate artificial intelligence from concept into operational and strategic value.

Designed for senior airport professionals, the three-day course—limited to 24 participants—focused on how AI can be embedded across planning, operations, and commercial functions. Participants explored how to apply predictive analytics to improve decision-making, strengthen Airport Operations Control Center capabilities, and better leverage data as a strategic asset.

The program was structured as an intensive, hands-on experience, combining foundational instruction with practical application. The first day introduced core AI concepts and examined their relevance to airport strategy, including scenario planning, forecasting, and real-time operational decision support. Discussions also addressed the opportunities and limitations of AI implementation in complex airport environments.

On the second day, participants moved from theory to application, examining real-world case studies and conducting data audits to identify potential areas for AI deployment. Interactive “sandbox” exercises allowed attendees to test tools and explore how AI can support planning, coordination, and operational efficiency.

The course concluded with a capstone exercise in which participants, working in teams, developed and presented AI implementation plans designed for airport leadership. These presentations focused on practical next steps, including pilot projects, governance structures, and procurement approaches such as data analytics services requests for proposals.

Organizers said the program was designed to deliver immediate, actionable outcomes, with participants leaving equipped to develop board-ready AI strategies and identify high-impact use cases within their own organizations.

The launch of the Executive Certificate reflects growing interest across the aviation sector in applying artificial intelligence to improve performance, enhance passenger experience, and support long-term planning in an increasingly data-driven environment.

The next offering of the Executive Certificate in Applied AI for Airports is scheduled for April 15-17, as interest in the program continues to grow.
